The Street Was Empty ....

The street was empty, no-one had heeded the warnings and then they came. They came and they grew and they took, took everything that was worth having, leaving nothing left that was recognisable nor of any value.

It was all once so vibrant, the sense of community a source of pride and all that had been built up over so many years was testament to the resourcefulness of the people, their ingenuity, their sense of invention, in fact, their general greatness, but now sadly, the wisdom and trust that developed had proven to be faulty.

Not everyone shared the same values and principles and everyone laughed and pointed fingers when the warnings came. Even the leaders were told, eventually, but reluctantly, discussing and debating and promising to take action on the warnings. They did nothing, those with power to help did nothing and the warnings proved right and the leaders wrong. What had taken so many years to establish was destroyed in less than a generation, but they had been warned.

What a sad, sad outcome for what had been such a wonderful life, a wonderful place, a wonderful time. Now there is just sorrow and regret and sadness, sadness that it has all ended. Would the like ever be seen again? Not for a very long time, if ever, it was gone and it was too late, such a shame.

There was nothing left now, a great history destroyed and a great people all gone, the street was empty…
