British Democratic Party Inaugural Meeting in the South West

A Sunday in mid-May saw the long-awaited inaugural meeting of the British Democratic Party in the South West. Ex-British National Party members and other disillusioned Nationalists who had drifted into other minor Nationalist parties, came together from across the region at a splendid venue in South Gloucestershire,in a spirit of unity, forgetting old rivalries and divisions to work together and take forward the Nationalist agenda in the West Country.

Steering Group members, Michaela Mackenzie, Joan Bridge-Taylor, Bruce Cowd and Robert Baggs spoke at the meeting, explaining their shared vision for the future including short and long- term targets to progress the party.

Main speaker Andrew Brons MEP spoke inspiringly on the future of Nationalism in Britain, explaining the British Democratic Party was now the only alternative there is to save our nation from the evils that face it. Andrew said that the BNP had now all but collapsed, with a very poor vote for them at elections earlier this month together with an active membership that had dropped to almost nil. He said that as the BNP was going through its death throes, the members had sought an alternative and had joined the smaller Nationalist parties such as the English Democrats, the National Front and the British Freedom Party to name a few, but had become disillusioned with the direction these parties were taking and many had, for a while, simply drifted into a non-political life. However, the arrival of the British Democratic Party has been seen as a much more positive alterative with many old hands returning to the fold. Andrew explained that, as time was not on our side we had to be sure that the BDP was viable and built on sound foundations, so rather than rushing into establishing a new party that might collapse almost as soon as it began, as several other new parties had done of late, it was crucial we got it right. He said that this decision had been proved correct, with the BDP Statement of Policy, the Constitution, written to take account of the failures of other parties, and a web-site. British Democratic Party, all being major foundation blocks on which the party can be built and taken forward.

The meeting came to an end with plans being agreed for the future. All those attending left in a united spirit of optimism knowing that the British Democratic Party was moving forward as the only alternative for saving this nation.

The British Democratic Party – On The Way!

I am pleased to say that British Democratic Party membership packs appear to be going out thick and fast and having received mine some weeks ago, it does feel good to know that I am part of a party that is going to turn out very well indeed for British Nationalism.

I’m sure that most of those reading this will either be in the same position as me, or on the verge of applying for membership, in which case it’ll do no harm mentioning that the membership pack consists of:-

1. a membership card;

2. a welcome letter from Ken Booth, the Enquiry and Membership Secretary;

3. a personal message from Andrew Brons;

4. an update from Ken on party progress;

5. several examples of leaflets that are available; and most importantly

6. a copy of the British Democratic Party Constitution ; and

7. a copy of the British Democratic Party Policy Statement

The steady progress being made by the party is now starting to show dividends, the party website – www.britishdemocraticparty.org – will be online in early March, enquiries and memberships seem to be steadily rolling in and much work is going on behind the scenes, in all parts of the country, to consolidate the party structure, with new Branches forming around the members joining us.

Certainly in the South West we have been surprised by the enthusiasm and support coming our way, particularly from the many ex-BNP’ers, as well as many current BNP members who are disillusioned with the failure of the BNP, have had enough and now want to see a fresh, positive and untainted Nationalist political party start taking back the ground that has been lost to us in recent years. However, with the BNP organisation on the verge of total collapse here, I guess this shouldn't really be too much of a surprise! I’ve personally been very pleased to hear, via this blog and other media, from those I’ve worked with over the last twenty years of Nationalist activity and look forward to working with them again in the future.

With regards the Constitution, it is interesting and reassuring particularly on the transparency around financial matters as well as in the democratic process adopted for the appointment of its’ officer’s.

The Policy Statement is also comforting for Nationalists looking to protect our core values and aims, from protecting our British Identity and our culture, to maintaining our sovereignty and territorial integrity, through restoration of our once first class educational system and the discipline of pupils, our system of law and order and our NHS. In a nutshell, we could say that it is time we got a grip and to me, this Policy Statement is perfect to ensure that we do that. As a result of the incompetency of a succession of Governments, the British have been made to look a laughing stock in the eyes of the rest of the world and it is time we said enough is enough and took steps to get serious again.

The British Democratic Party National Launch

What essentially was a fairly low-key event has created the biggest frenzy in Nationalist political circles since the comedian Nick Griffin appeared on BBC’s Question Time several years ago. (As an aside, I saw a TV interview at the weekend with Nigel Farage, the UKIP Chairman, who, on discussing the “threat” caused by Griffin, suggested the best way to get rid of him was to offer him another spot on Question Time!). Anyway the “fearsome”, extreme left-wing Hope-Not-Hate and Searchlight brigades, desperate to retain their livelihoods in the absence of any excitement from the terminally declining rump-BNP, seem to be almost orgasmic as a result of the long-awaited official launch of the British Democratic Party, which took place on Saturday 9th February 2013 at the Queniborough Village Hall near Leicester.

Also the treacherous keyboard “nationalist” warriors on the British Democracy Forum and elsewhere are falling over themselves to bad-mouth the efforts of those dedicated Nationalists who are prepared to do more than sit at home hiding behind their lap-tops and actually do something positive to revitalise the Nationalist movement, a Nationalist movement that has so much potential, even after Nick “He Am Mad” Griffin has destroyed the BNP, an organisation which several years ago could actually have made a difference.

Anyway hats off to Kevin Scott and Ken Booth for opening a new and exciting chapter in British Nationalism!

I woke up on the Saturday morning to find the weather was cold with sleet falling and thinking this was likely to put off some of those who had intended on making the journey up to Leicester. I had already told Kevin and Ken I would be there and so packed the flask and set off. The weather seemed to deteriorate as we got closer to Leicester but with a feeling that this was the new beginning that we had awaited for so long, it made the 100-mile journey worthwhile.

On arrival I was a little disappointed at the turnout, but not totally surprised at seeing those who had made the effort to show support for this venture and also similarly unsurprised at the absence of some, who I would have thought have been there but weren't. However, around 80, largely big-name Nationalists, mostly ex-BNP members were there to witness, what, in time, will be considered a historic event in Nationalist history. As is par for the course, with Nationalist meetings, this one was late starting, partly due to late-comers arriving, but also as a result of old colleagues catching up, after, in some cases, not having been in touch for several years. However this helped in ensuring the mutual feeling that something good was to come out of this venture. I was particularly interested to hear from Adrian Davies the story of how yet another calamity had befallen Nick Griffin. It seems that a firm of solicitors from Washpool, yes, his home town, who had been representing Griffin, were suing him for failing to pay their fees. Griffin had accused them of incompetency hence the non-payment.Well, the solicitors won their case and Griffin was ordered to pay the sum due of around £76,000 plus interest, a total sum of approximately £100,000! As the money from recent legacies to the BNP drys up, watch out for the begging letters again folks!

The meeting Chaired by Kevin Scott was called to order around 11.30 and he made an introductory speech and announced Adrian Davies as first of five speakers The five all spoke on the subject of “Why We Need A New Party”. Adrian was followed by Andrew Moffat, Sam Swerling, Kevan Stafford and Andrew Brons, all of whom spoke well on the subject re-inforcing the reasons why we were there. Afterwards Kevin invited comment from the floor resulting in a couple of interesting points, one being the need to engage with more women and younger people, the subject I hope to write a further article on for the Heritage and Destiny magazine. Another point being on the potential for engaging with church-going folk, many of whom are alive to the concerns of the threat of Islam. Additionally, fine words of encouragement were provided by Richard Edmonds, to my mind one of the great speakers of the Nationalist movement and who, I am afraid to say, I have seen speak live too few times.

At the break I apologised personally to Kevin, having previously apologised publicly, for my impatience over the visible progress in recent months, but having looked at the British Democratic Party Policy Statement realised that the time taken had been well-spent in ensuring the right preparation. I think the Policy Statement is exactly what the Nationalist movement of the 21st century needs if it is to appeal to the public, who are never going to accept some of the Nationalist ideals of the 20th century.

I thought the article title, “A Summer of Distraction And Dither”, on the front page of the November 2012 edition of the Comrade newsletter published by the Friends of Mosley, was quite apt, with many Nationalists struggling to make up their minds as to where their political future might lay. My dithering was now over as I made my decision and joined the British Democratic Party, along with many others at the meeting.

After the break Andrew Brons opened the afternoon session with a talk about Policy and Ideology, which was well-received and at the end of his talk we regrettably made our exit, having an evening commitment back home to meet. Consequently, we missed a further talk by Adrian Davies and also talks by Ken Booth and Brian Mahoney, as well as Jim Lewthwaite I believe.

Since the meeting I have looked at the pathetic drivel written on the internet about the BDP and will simply say that it was a privilege to have been part of a successful move to take back the Nationalist movement from the gutter where Griffin has deposited it. I wish the British Democratic Party every success and hope to do my bit in making it a serious contender in the political scene over the years to come.

It might be of interest that, by accident or design, Nick Griffin and his rump-BNP also held a meeting in Leicester, at the same time as the BDP meeting. I understand numbers were way down on what they have been in the past. Similarly, the meeting held in my home town of Swindon on the Sunday was attended by 25, again way down on the 80-100 we used to attract several years ago, even if according to contacts who attended, the “25” was a rounded-up figure anyway. I expect the regulars at the venue were chuckling amongst themselves at how the great Nick Griffin and his followers “filled” the back-room of the Moonrakers. It’s a big room that, if you don’t have the numbers attending!

Interestingly again, the word from other BNP members across the country who I am still in touch with, is that Griffin is in a total panic that the BDP is on the verge of taking away his thunder and he has put the word out that the BDP is to be bad-mouthed at every opportunity, hence the rubbish on the internet fora I guess.

Anyway, I think that Nick Griffin and the rump-BNP will, over the next few months, drift off into oblivion, so, unless their antics get even more comical, with Nick starting soup kitchens for the poor perhaps..... I’ll comment only on the positive developments in British Nationalist politics and that will mean the British Democratic Party.

I’ll end by recommending, for the sake of unity and the future of British Nationalism and the British Nation, that members of other Nationalist parties and those who, since experiencing the poisoning of the BNP, have not aligned themselves with any political party, sign up with the British Democratic Party, after all they are the only game in town!

2013 - Nationalist Revival or Nationalist Extinction?

Along with a great many other Nationalists I started 2013 on an optimistic note in the hope that there will be unity amongst the various Nationalist parties, groups and non-aligned individuals.

It’s become generally accepted that the British National Party is now a busted flush and likely to become even more of a joke amongst seasoned Nationalists than it was in 2012. However, we may see Nick Griffin becoming more active and attempting to increase his profile towards the end of the year as he manoeuvres to ensure his snout remains in the financial trough by retaining his Euro seat in 2014. So, interesting times for the BNP, but with the party now containing nothing but anonymous Johnny-come-lately, inexperienced, nationalists, (deliberately with a small “n”), I doubt it will make any progress at all.

As readers will no doubt be aware, the Nationalist scene is now very fragmented, as disillusioned BNP’ers have sought to create the “new BNP” and many others have slipped into “retirement”. The new kids on the block including the British Freedom Party and their off-shoot the Freedom Democrats were five-minute wonders, Britain First which showed some initial promise have also faded and even the, once very promising, English Defence League who benefitted from disillusioned BNP supporters and others, seems to be dying. The English Democrats who also benefitted seem to have stalled for the time being but certainly have the credentials to make waves in the future and newcomers the British Democratic Party also show much promise and despite the impatience of some of us, are playing a very sensible slow game to make sure they get things right before formally launching, to ensure they do not stumble at the first hurdle. Certainly their progress will be viewed with interest and having expressed public support for them, but having withdrawn any active involvement due to personal business commitments, do still wish them well.

Other newcomers Patria look impressive but I just can’t see them becoming a serious force and I admire the optimism of the new British Union who I would dearly love to see become as popular as its original namesake, but sadly fear those days are long gone and see them becoming yet another casualty in Nationalist history.

Finally, the National Front, although a mere shadow of their former selves refuse to go away and I see their popularity increasing in 2013, as social and political circumstances create the environment that they will do well in.

So, if I were a gambling man my money would be on the British Democratic Party and the National Front to become the main players in 2013 and would encourage all readers to keep an eye on their progress.

However it is unfortunate that there are still spoilers out there. Those who think they are the “Voices of Nationalism” but, assuming they are not working for the other side, consider they are simply very bitter as a result of having no home in Nationalism due to the upset they have caused to so many in the movement, resulting in the fact that there is no-one left who actually wants to work with them. On one blog, one of these sad and homeless characters suggested that the British Democratic Party will fail because I have expressed support for them. I am sure, that on reading my position, above, this poor fellow will become even more confused and wander even further into the political wilderness. It saddens me that such characters still have to put their energy into negativity within our movement, as we get enough of that from our enemies. Perhaps that energy could be channelled into positive good, or better still, that they actually admit they are working for the other side.

Anyway, back to the optimism, which I still have for the future. The question is how to spread this optimism more widely? Perhaps this blog will serve to help to some extent, but it is down to all of us to use the skills and experiences we have, from life in general and political activity in particular, and to do something positive for Nationalism every day.

I’ve done my bit today, have you done yours?
